इमूनाईज़ेशन का व्यापक कार्यक्रम चलाने वाले देशों में भारत एक है। यहां का टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम भौगोलिक क्षेत्र, लाभार्थियों की संख्या और टीके के इस्तेमाल के लिहाज से भी बड़ा है। हर साल लगभग 27 मिलियन नवजात बच्चों को टीका लगाया जाता है। टीके लगाने के लिए 9 मिलियन सत्र वार्षिक होते हैं। भारत टीके बनाने और निर्यात करने में भी आगे है। सभी कोशिशों के बावजूद 65 प्रतिशत बच्चों को ही अपने जीवन के पहले साल में सभी टीके मिल पाते हैं। इस स्थिति को देखते हुए टीकाकरण की मांग पैदा करने के लिए और प्रयास करने की जरूरत है। खासकर उन क्षेत्रों में जहां टीकाकरण की दर बहुत कम है। सामान्य टीकों को बच्चों तक पहुंचाने में जो कठिनाइयां आ रही हैं उन्हें दूर करना होगा ताकि नियमित टीकाकरण का मार्ग प्रशस्त हो सके। सरकार मिशन इन्द्र धनुष के द्वारा उन बच्चों को टारगेट करने की कोशिश कर रही है जिन तक सामान्य टीकाकरण अभियान द्वारा नहीं पहुंचा जा सका है। उदाहरण के तौर दूरदराज़ क्षेत्र (हार्ड रीच क्षेत्र) कन्स्ट्रक्शन साइट, ईंट के भट्टे, फैक्ट्री और कारखानों आदि में काम कर रही महिलाओं के बच्चे, मिशन इन्द्र धनुष के तहत हर म...
